Content Strands

Reading      Mathematics      Science

Content Strands evaluate student performance in fundamental learning skills by showing assessment results broken out by specific content areas on the ISAT assessments for reading, mathematics, and science. The content strands are aligned to the Learning Standards. Because ISAT assessments are equated at each grade, content strand results can be compared year-to-year and grade-to-grade to measure improvement. Content strands were not developed for the writing assessment or for PSAE. Click on the links below to see content strands for each subject. Included are tables listing the number of test items on each strand in recent years (note that the number of items varies slightly by strand year-to-year). Teachers can use the information in these tables to review instructional practices and lesson plans relative to test content.

To see how students in a given school or district performed on the content strands, go to the ISAT results page for that school or district and click on "Content Strands" to the right of the "Go" button above the graphs. IIRC also reports content strand results at the individual student level in the student reports available to educators in their school data (secure access required).
